Crafts Service Workout

Brent is shooting some children’s music videos today and tomorrow.  Like last year, I’ve been hired to do “crafts service”.  Like most normal people, I brought my kettlebells along and slipped away for a workout.

While Brent was doing this…

…I was  doing this.

(Don’t tell him.)

The Gym
12 kg Kettlebell
16 kg Kettlebell
Workout Journal and Pen
iPhone Gymboss App
Bodybugg (Gowear Fit) Display  (more on that later)
(the cigarettes were not part of the arsenal)

The Workout
Clean and Press Ladder – 4 rungs x 4
100 Kettlebell Highpulls
1 Round of Tabata Squats
4 Hill Sprints

I sprinted (jogged) up the trail to those two poles that are close together.  It may not look very far but trust me the lactic acid buildup was BURNING when I got to the top.

On the way up I passed these.

When Brent was done I thought is would be good for him to walk up with me once before going home.  You know so, I could burn a few more calories,…err…he could decompress.

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn

I'm so happy you stopped by my little corner of the web where I write about fitness, food, and amazing women I "meet". I live in California with my wonderful husband and two rambunctious boys. I'm a personal trainer and dreamer. I enjoy most things but some of my favorites are reading, acting, camping, cooking, music, writing, traveling, and being in the moment with my favorite people! What a view!!!!

My shoulder’s no longer hurting so I think I can try the ‘bells. Would starting out with a video first be the best idea?

Glad to hear your shoulder is better. Funny you should ask b/c I was planning on doing a post on this soon after seeing the HORRIBLE (and dangerous) explanations on exrx.com and on some other blogs. Yeesh!

Clearly the *best* idea would be to see if there is an HKC or RKC instructor in your area for a one or two “lessons” to get the basics down. There is an instructor search tool on http://www.dragondoor.com/ . If that is not an option a workout DVD from Dragon Door would be your next bet. Or Sarah Lurie (she started out in the RKC and is the girl behind the bells at Target) would be a good too.

You’re using the 16 kg?!?! Great job, Jenn!

I saw some kettlebells at the store….are 15 lb bells ok? Should I get 1 or 2?

You seem pretty strong…15 might be a little light for you. I started with the 18lb and quickly moved to the 26lb. Press the 15 and the 20. If you can get the 20 up (even with a little push from your legs) I’d get the 20lb. Start with one. Most exercises you can do with one. Double kettlebell work is fun but why spend the money until you know you really like it. Another idea is to get the 15 and the 20. Personally I choose to do double work with uneven weights…amazing for the core.

Hi friend – okay – a woman after my own heart maximizing that time. Like – no duh – right:)? I would be right there -with my kettleball. So – what’s a ladder? I am so confused. Am I the dumbest woman in the world?

Wow! I love how you take your kettlebells everywhere! I’m still afraid to try them for myself though… But one day I will! :)

I love the ingenuity! And the views! I did hill sprints on my vacation during a “hike workout”. Nothing like a little tiny hill to kick the crap out of you- makes it go from a ho-hum walk/hike to a real workout!
Hilarious about the cigarettes in the photo! haha.
