Musings, Taekwondo Previous Next

What a weekend!

Another weekend filled to the brim and spilling over with a crazy hodgepodge of activities.

A taekwondo tournament.

A sudden urge to pull off the freeway when we saw a sign that said
“Lake Elsinore Historic Downtown”.

A wonderful little Italian restaurant with a character of an owner.

A long talk in the car with Brent.

A long snuggle and with two boys “who snuggling with their mama” days are more limited than she is willing to admit.

“Bee sting pinches” in between snuggles.

Time to try to curl my hair before church.
(Still haven’t learned that one)

A hike.

Homemade soup.

I’m really working on my “new decade resolution” and trying to soak up each day filling each cell of my body with life so full they almost burst.

Which means some memories will be pixalated others not so much…

The Tournament

Crash!

You can’t tell but I have lovely matching red toe nails.

I promise to never kick anyone without pretty toes.
(My fingers were just crossed.)

In case you’re wondering, I got first in forms and second in sparring.

The hike

Thing 2.

Thing 1

Watching a Nerf war.

This is what you do after a long hike.

and

Coconut Chicken Soup

I promise it tastes a lot better than it looks.
(My fingers WEREN’T crossed.)

Two more things

1. I rewrote my about page.  I’d be so grateful if someone would take a moment to  read it and email me if you catch any errors.
(I’m sure there are plenty.)
jenn(at)girl-heroes(dot)com

2. Tomorrow, I’m posting a new Girl Hero interview.  Come back to meet her!  Pretty please with honey on top!

Anyone have any hints on how to photograph soup?
What about “how to” curling iron tips?
How was your weekend?

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn

I'm so happy you stopped by my little corner of the web where I write about fitness, food, and amazing women I "meet". I live in California with my wonderful husband and two rambunctious boys. I'm a personal trainer and dreamer. I enjoy most things but some of my favorites are reading, acting, camping, cooking, music, writing, traveling, and being in the moment with my favorite people! Soup is hard. I find that side shots and shots with only part of the bowl make them prettier. And garnish. But I usually don’t bother. It sounds great though!

Love the new about page – chronic cheerleader syndrome made me laugh out loud, and is going to make it into my vocab today.

Thanks Katie. Appreciate the suggestions and will give them a try next time I make that soup. Maybe it won’t look like rancid lake water.

I love chronic cheerleader, but in my house I am a professional cat herder!

I agree with Katie, put soup in a pretty bowl, add garnish and dress up the table close to the bowl before photographing the side or part of the bowl with the pretty table in the shot!

    Congrats on your wins!

As for hair curling, haven’t figured that one out either. What works for me, is to wash the night before, wad up in a pony tail/bun, and early on Sunday morning, while hair is still a bit damp, take down and put in the rollers. Either right before leaving for church, or on the ride there, hair is usually curled and I can remove the rollers, hair usually falls into loose waves, with minimal hairspray/fuss by me once I get to church and run to the bath room to straighten out the waves and make it all look presentable. I always keep a pretty clip in my purse though for those days, that nothing I do, and by no effort I can possible muster, my hair won’t fix.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Regarding the rollers- what sort of rollers? Hot rollers? “Loose waves” are what I’d love but can’t seem to accomplish. Is your hair dry by the morning when you put it up damp at night?

      “cat herder” he he!!!

Love the TKD photos! Second in sparring is awesome. Can I admit to you that sparring is not my friend? I feel all over the place and I still don’t have enough experience to be very good. Plus, I’m always a teensy bit afraid… but you look great!

Thank you Helen. The photos may not show it but I’m always a teensy bit afraid too. I haven’t gotten to a point where I’m consistent. My persformance seems unpredictable and depends a lot on my mental state. I have good days and off days and never really can tell what kind of day it’s going to be until I’m in the middle of a match.

Loved the new about me. So easy and fun to read. In your first picture I could hear you saying, “Hi, I’m Jenn” Not that I really eat soup, but I think throwing in some kind of garnish really would help. Even if it’s a leaf off an inedible plant in your yard. Or maybe your pretty face getting ready to take a bite :)

Yeah, I think a garnish would be a good idea. Anything to show that it’s not a bowl of dirty dish water!

What a fun post! Despite living with 60+ women in college, I am yet to learn how to curl my hair, apply eyeliner and/or blush, and walk gracefully in heels. 😉
