Stop, Drop, and Roll

Yesterday we drove across the desert.

Again.

I actually have a thing for the desert. It makes me alive and wild. Even if it only lasts for the drive.

We came out to Arizona as we do almost every Easter. Last year, I was all kinds of crazy with the kettlebells and my packing. This year, I packed a few bells but have yet to swing them.

And the only funky food thing I insisted on bringing was my water kefir.

And the cat. Always the cat. I think I’d leave my kids behind before I would the cat. Kidding.

I’m going to tell you a little secret. In the past, I’ve gone on vacations and come back almost 10 pounds heavier. True. It was never the end of the world but I certainly didn’t like coming home with all my clothes a little snugger. You know what is worse than tight clothes? Not even remembering all the food.  All that mindless, “I’m on vacation”, munching.

This year I’m approaching my vacation differently. Rather than saying “I’m on vacation” as an excuse to mindlessly eat twice the pizza I need, I’m saying “I’m on vacation” as an excuse to go to bed early. As an excuse to read more.  As an excuse to foam roll a bit longer without feeling like I’m wasting time (I know foam rolling isn’t a waste of time but sometimes it just feels like there are more pressing things to be done.)

Sure I still plan on enjoying some of my favorite foods but vacation is not going to be about the food.  It’s going to be about being with my family, reading, playing,  sleeping, sleeping, and maybe some more sleeping.  I hope.

This is what my body needs. What my mind needs. What my soul needs.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

I wrote down some vacation “goals” for the week.

Then today I wrote down some Monday “goals”. I got them all done except the kettlebell workout. That’s ok. I’ll do it tomorrow.

Wait…I almost got all of them done. I’m working on the last one right now.

But first…

Did you read my Olay Total Effects Line and Dark Circle Minimizing Brush (that’s a mouthful) review?  If not hop on over there and leave a comment to be entered to win a $100 Spa Finder gift card.  So far there are less than 20 entries so your chances of winning are really good!

Now…

Good night!!!

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn

I'm so happy you stopped by my little corner of the web where I write about fitness, food, and amazing women I "meet". I live in California with my wonderful husband and two rambunctious boys. I'm a personal trainer and dreamer. I enjoy most things but some of my favorites are reading, acting, camping, cooking, music, writing, traveling, and being in the moment with my favorite people! You can read more about me here! I hope you stop by often!

Yes! Sleep! A vacation with an ample supply of sleep — that sounds so goooood.

(on a side note – I received my kettle goddess dvd, worked out yesterday and am so wonderfully sore – thanks for the input)

This is great- you’ll do it and you’ll be so happy for it.

I have done the 10 pounds heavier (or I think I am, as I don’t weigh myself when I KNOW I’m really on the high end)…and I am miserable for WEEEEEEEKs after that. So I’ve decided that the best approach for me is to stick to a few things I know help (even if it means packing a blender) and relaxing the rules a bit too. I still come back 5 pounds heavier, but heck, it’s better than 10.

I’ll let you know when Meow cow makes his guest appearance on Ellie’s blog. The world needs to know that cats can and do love to travel! <3

I love how you’re framing your vacation with different ways to treat yourself! Great stuff. And I, too, am amazed by the kitty’s willingness to travel. Ours are far less amenable, which I’m sure is because we almost never take them in the car!

Thanks Tamara! We found our kitty as a stray in a parking lot at my brother’s wedding in Indiana so he started traveling with us right away. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Ooh, the new design is super cute! And yes, I bet that had a lot to do with it. How fun! We’ve had Mal & Inara since they were wee kittens (my husband adopted them about a week before he and I met) so they’re quite the homebodies. They’ve adjusted very well to the new house, though!

Those are great goals to have during vaca. I recently learned that vaca doesn’t mean free for all when it comes to indulgences. OK, I always knew that but I didn’t always practice that.

All us mamas need more sleep in our lives! and time w/ the foam roller, of course. :)

Sorry I haven’t been commenting as frequently. I kinda fell off the blogosphere with my dads cancer diagnosis and all. So I’ll be commenting on that spa finder thing when I finish with this comment.
Have so much fun on vacation that you “forget” your goals and weight anxieties. let yourself eat what you please but remember it really isn’t about the food. And roll, rock that roll!

Love the new design! And great trip goals. I am the same exact way and never understand why food is my tool for enjoyment. I like your focus on other things and think you will have a wonderful time!
