An Evening Workout

I usually don’t post on the weekends but since I don’t want to clean the kitchen love you so much, I thought I’d share a fun workout Brent and I did this evening.  As the weather was perfect and the sun was just starting to set, we decided to workout in the backyard.  Who said kettlebells can’t be romantic.

An Evening Workout

I warmed up with some light swings and a few pull ups as I don’t want to lose them again because they are hard to find.  (Nothing says “cool” like writing corny fitness jokes on a Saturday night.) Then we proceeded with…

Double (or single) Kettlebell Swings x20
Double (or single) Military Presses x5
Burpees x5
Single Leg Squats x10 each leg

Repeat sequence 5x.

My single leg squats are actually only partial.  I simply don’t have the strength yet to get all the way down and back up without assistance. These are something I’d like to be able to do in the upcoming year.

After our workout we enjoyed a simple dinner.  While I may unashamedly confess to liking McD’s Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, 9 times out of 10 you’ll find me eating something more like this: grilled wild salmon, arugula (Sautéed with olive oil, 1/4 cup of sun dried tomatoes, 1/2 onion, and 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar.  Topped with feta.), and a glass of kombucha. Brent may or may not have made us some maple ice cream for dessert.  😉

Before I go can anyone tell me what this is and what to do with it???

It came in my CSA box.  I hope I don’t have a baby alien about to hatch in my fridge.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn

Ah, kettlebells…I’ve messed around with them but haven’t done a full-on workout with ’em. Can’t wait to though!

    PS – I think that’s a beet?

Great kb workout ! I may borrow that :). Beets and their greens are delicious! Boil the purple Beet and slice up and enjoy . Steam the greens and put a little red vinegar on them soooooo delicious and great for you .

Is it wrong that I love burpees? They are so great…you can do them anywhere and they make me so sore and tired, in a good way.

That’s a weird little veggie you’ve got there. It looks like a cross between a beet and a something that I can’t think of the name right now, and it’s kiling me!! I even grew it in my garden…. I realize this is no help.

    Beets don’t grow like that…

It looks like a kohlrabi, but I’ve never seen a red one before. I peel them and shred them and use them in a slaw. It’s funny–they are considered a very modest and frugal vegetable like the turnip or cabbage, but no one in my area eats them and when I find them, they’re usually expensive.

I emailed my CSA and yep you’re right!!! It’s a kohlrabi. I’ve never even heard of it!

That, my dear, is a beet. :0) You boil it in water about the same amount of time as a potato and then serve it warm with a little butter. You will hate me for telling you this because it is so awesome you might just get addicted.

Pretty sure that’s not a beet – I have to concur with Marjorie: I think it’s a kohlrabi. It’s easily enough solved though – cut that sucker in half! If it feels like the stem part of broccoli (and kinda tastes like cabbage) then it’s Kohlrabi. If it’s dense like a potato and red all the way through then it’s a beet. And boy howdy do I hear you about the single leg squats! They were in our workout on Friday – I got 3 all the way down and up on my right leg and… 1/2 on my left leg. Unbalanced much? We were supposed to do 8 btw… oops!

It looks like a red kohlrabi to me. I’ve never seen a red one before either. I like to cut kohlrabi into pieces like carrot sticks and dip them in hummus.

So what does one do with kohlrabi?

If I did a full single leg squat I’m pretty sure all the cartilage in my knee would poke a hole out through my skin and spill out onto the street.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Filet o Fish. Seriously love it. Confession: I had an Egg McMuffin and a hash brown on the way to canada and I loved every single bite.
