GH 101 – Gratitude

Gratitude

Going back to the 4 wheels of the Hero-mobile, if I am going to choose to ride an unicycle, I try to choose GRATITUDE.  Why?  Again, it’s simple but not always easy.

Gratitude = attitude.

Without gratitude, I’ll most likely have a lousy attitude and a lousy attitude makes everything (including losing those last 5 lbs) HARDER.  I can eat healthy, exercise, and rest but if I don’t have gratitude the road is much bumpier (In my case, we are talking elephant sized potholes.) and I risk being a royal pain in the azz to everyone around me. I’m speaking from experience here. I came across this quote and after reflecting on it, I decided it encompasses so much of what I’d like to say and more.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. – Melodie Beattie

Gratitude doesn’t mean we need to walk around like Mr. Rogers all day long. (Though, imo, the world could use some more Mr. Rogers.)  I can still have bad days. I can still have PMS. I can still feel like ramming my car into the person’s car who took “my” spot in the parking lot.  I’m human.

But at the end of the day and even after too much pizza, I desire gratitude.

Gratitude is my anchor in the storm. Gratitude gives me strength on shaky ground. Gratitude puts Garbage Girl in her place. Gratitude fights off despair (even when my thighs are not shrinking). Gratitude allows me to forgive myself and forgive others.  Gratitude opens the door to hope.

Are you ready?

I hope you enjoyed this series of posts.  I wish I could say it was easy. I wish I could say that it was a magic pill.  I wish I could say it’s not been (as is not at times still) frustrating.  I wish I didn’t have to say it was (and is) something as boring as consistency and self-discipline but if I can do it. ANYONE can.

For those of you already off and running.

Thank you for the inspiration.

For those of you hanging out at the starting line.  Come join us!!!!

On your mark. Get set. GO!!!!!!!

    I love the part where you said:

    “Gratitude is my anchor in the storm. Gratitude gives me strength on shaky ground.”

    I have found that even on my worst days the attitude of gratitude is always the way to go!

    Thanks for sharing!
